Opening Ceremony | 2025 HKU AI Summer Program: Tech-Innovative Teens Embark on AI Exploration Journey

当人工智能的浪潮席卷全球，掌握AI思维与实践能力的青少年，已然站在了未来竞争的起跑线上。8月1日上午，2025港大AI暑期实践——人工智能科学创新与实践项目盛大开营，来自各地的优秀青少年怀揣对科技的热忱，齐聚香港大学青年科创学院，共同开启这场融合知识与实践的科创之旅。

As the wave of artificial intelligence sweeps the globe, teenagers mastering AI thinking and practical skills are already at the starting line of future competition. On the morning of August 1st, the 2025 HKU AI Summer Program – Artificial Intelligence Science Innovation and Practice Program kicked off grandly. Outstanding teenagers from across the country, with a passion for technology, gathered at the HKU Youth Tech-Innovation Academy to start this tech-innovation journey integrating knowledge and practice.

本次项目由香港大学运动人工智能实验室、深圳新哲文院、港大青年科创学院三方联袂打造，以“AI前沿技术、科创实践、团队协作”为核心，通过港大教授亲授课程、国际STEM专家指导课题、机械臂实战开发等特色环节，让营员在挑战中突破认知边界，在协作中收获志同道合的友谊，在实践中完成从理论到创新的跨越。

Co-organized by the Sports AI Laboratory of HKU, Sendelta, and HKU Youth Tech-Innovation Academy, the program focuses on "cutting-edge AI technologies, tech-innovation practice, and teamwork". Through featured sessions like courses taught by HKU professors, project guidance from international STEM experts, and hands-on development of robotic arms, campers will break cognitive boundaries through challenges, gain like-minded friendships through collaboration, and achieve the leap from theory to innovation through practice.

出席开营仪式的嘉宾阵容强大，包括香港大学青年科创学院副院长陈艳女士、香港大学工程学院副院长霍伟栋博士、新哲文院副校长彭禹校长、香港大学青年科创学院运营总监何子豪先生、香港大学运动人工智能实验室助理总监陈颖贤博士、香港大学计算机博士兼主讲师江颂涛先生。

The opening ceremony saw a strong lineup of guests, including Ms. Chen Yan, Vice Dean of HKU Youth Tech-Innovation Academy; Dr. Huo Weidong, Vice Dean of HKU Faculty of Engineering; Principal Peng Yu, Vice Principal of Sendelta; Mr. He Zihao, Operation Director of HKU Youth Tech-Innovation Academy; Dr. Chen Yingxian, Assistant Director of HKU Sports AI Laboratory; and Dr. Jiang Songtao, HKU Computer Science Doctor and camp’s main lecturer.

其中，霍伟栋博士、彭禹校长及陈艳女士作为嘉宾代表分别致辞，为活动送上殷切期望。

Among them, Dr. Huo Weidong, Principal Yu Peng, and Ms. Chen Yan delivered speeches as guest representatives, expressing their earnest expectations for the program.

霍伟栋博士在致辞中强调，人工智能时代已然到来，青少年学生应积极融合新科技，学习运用人工智能，为国家和社会发展贡献力量。他提到，我国在人工智能领域发展迅速，近期机器人相关动态便展现了国家实力，且该领域变化极快，短短两三年就有诸多新发展，未来还会不断涌现新产品，期待同学们未来能参与发明创造。

同时，霍博士分享了香港大学在人工智能和科研成果方面的进展，希望同学们珍惜本周时间，向老师好好学习，欢迎未来进入香港大学深造，并邀请同学们下周参观香港大学的实验室，助力大家成长。

Dr. Huo emphasized that the AI era has arrived, and teenagers should actively integrate new technologies, learn to use AI, and contribute to national and social development. He noted that China is developing rapidly in AI, with recent robot-related developments demonstrating national strength. The field evolves rapidly, with many new advancements in just a few years and more products to come. He expects students to participate in inventions in the future.

He also shared HKU’s progress in AI and research achievements, urging students to cherish the week-long camp, learn from teachers, and welcomed them to further their studies in HKU. He invited students to visit HKU laboratories next week to support their growth.

彭禹校长首先表达了对新哲文院获得港大认可、成为其暑期实践基地的荣幸，并介绍了学校在工程与科创领域的大量投入。

他谈及自身期望，希望能推动中国学生在工程、机器人及人工智能领域跻身世界前沿。回顾2012年赴美参赛时，彭校长发现美国学生已运用机器学习等技术，而国内当时尚处空白，这让他意识到中学生科创可与前沿专家协作。他指出，如今中学科创所使用的工具已与大学博士、教授的基础工具一致，差距仅在可积累的经验。

彭禹校长以曾带教的学生为例，该生本科毕业便出任机器人与人工智能企业CTO，如此高成就与其十余年积累的经验密切相关。而此次活动能让学生获取更加高级的工程经验，为创造出了不起的成果奠定基础。

最后，彭禹校长表达了对学生未来做出非凡成就的殷切期望。

Principal Peng first expressed honor that Sendelta was recognized by HKU as a training base for the camp and introduced the school’s heavy investment in engineering and tech-innovation.

He shared his expectation to push Chinese students to the global forefront in engineering, robotics, and AI. Recalling his 2012 trip to the US for a competition, he found American students already using technologies like machine learning while China was still blank, making him realize middle school students could collaborate with cutting-edge experts. He pointed out that tools used in middle school tech-innovation now match those of university doctors and professors, with the only gap being accumulated experience.

He cited a former student who became CTO of a robotics and AI company right after undergraduate graduation, attributing such achievements to over a decade of experience. He noted the camp would equip students with advanced engineering experience, laying the foundation for remarkable achievements, and expressed earnest expectations for their future success.

陈艳女士首先对参与活动的师生表示欢迎，称此次旅程充满科技与想象力。

接下来，陈艳女士介绍了香港大学的国际地位与成就：作为亚洲的世界大学，70%以上教师为外籍，国际化程度高，师资力量雄厚，拥有全球排名前列的教授团队。

陈艳女士表示，香港大学注重科研创新，在科研领域取得诸多显著成就，特别是在生物医药和工程领域。同时，香港大学积极利用大湾区的产业市场和资本资源，通过青创学院已孵化出400多家科创公司，聚焦于AI、医疗保健、新能源和新材料等领域。

最后，她强调了科创教育对学生未来发展的意义，鼓励学生拥抱AI世界，用积极的心态参与学习和创新，并欢迎大家未来加入香港大学商学院，共同推动科技创新和社会发展。

Ms. Chen welcomed participating teachers and students, calling the journey full of technology and imagination.

She introduced HKU’s international status: as a world university in Asia, over 70% of its faculty are foreign, with a highly international and strong teaching team including top-ranked professors globally.

She stated HKU values research innovation, with notable achievements in fields like biomedicine and engineering. Leveraging the Greater Bay Area’s industrial market and capital resources, the Youth Tech-Innovation Academy has incubated over 400 tech-innovation companies focusing on AI, healthcare, new energy, and new materials.

Finally, she emphasized the significance of tech-innovation education for students’ future, encouraging them to embrace the AI world, participate in learning and innovation with a positive attitude, and welcomed them to join HKU Business School to promote technological innovation and social development.

三位嘉宾的寄语点燃了学员们的探索热情，现场掌声雷动，不少同学已迫不及待地与身边伙伴探讨起未来的课题方向。

The three guests’ messages ignited students’ enthusiasm for exploration, with warm applause filling the venue. Many students couldn’t wait to discuss future project directions with peers.

安全与成长并重的营期约定

Rules for Guidance:

Camp Agreements Prioritizing Safety and Growth

无规矩不成方圆，科创探索更需在规范中释放创造力。主持人随后宣读《活动须知》，从安全第一、电子产品管理、课堂纪律、宿舍生活、尊重礼仪及环保行动六大维度为营期保驾护航。

"Nothing can be accomplished without norms." Tech-innovation exploration requires creativity within rules. The host then read the Activity Guidelines, covering six aspects – safety first, electronic device management, class discipline, dormitory life, respect and etiquette, and environmental protection – to ensure a smooth camp.

破冰互动：

从陌生到协作的奇妙蜕变

Ice-breaking Interactions:

Wonderful Transformation from Strangers to Collaborators

为打破初见的拘谨，现场接连开展“名字接龙大冒险”“合力运球”“机器人知识问答接力”三大破冰游戏，让气氛迅速升温。

To break the initial awkwardness, three ice-breaking games were held: "Name Chain Adventure", "Cooperative Ball Carrying", and "Robot Knowledge Q&A Relay", quickly heating up the atmosphere.

名字接龙大冒险：互记住彼此的名字和兴趣爱好，打破陌生感。

Name Chain Adventure: Helping remember each other’s names and hobbies to break the strangeness.

合力运球：促进队员之间的沟通和协助，增强团队的凝聚力。

Cooperative Ball Carrying: Promoting communication and collaboration to enhance team cohesion.

机器人知识问答接力：激发营员的兴趣与积极性，锻炼反应能力和知识储备。

Robot Knowledge Q&A Relay: Stimulating campers’ interest and enthusiasm, and exercising response ability and knowledge reserve.

游戏结束后，表现优异的营员获得专属奖励，在一片片喝彩欢呼声中，2025香港大学人工智能科学创新暑期实践活动开营仪式正式落下帷幕。

After the games, outstanding campers received exclusive rewards. Amid cheers, the opening ceremony of the 2025 HKU AI Science Innovation Summer Practice Program officially concluded.

精彩启程：

探索AI世界的无限可能

A Wonderful Start:

Exploring Unlimited Possibilities in the AI World

自8月1日下午起，营员们便正式投入紧张充实的课程学习：人工智能代码基础将筑牢编程根基，智能传感器与超声波雷达实践将揭开机器感知世界的奥秘，而人工智能与机械臂控制理论课程，则将引导学员探索“大脑”与“肢体”的协同逻辑······

From the afternoon of August 1st, campers officially began intense and fulfilling courses: Basic AI Coding to build a solid programming foundation, Practice with Intelligent Sensors and Ultrasonic Radars to uncover the mysteries of machines perceiving the world, and AI and Robotic Arm Control Theory to guide students in exploring the collaborative logic between "brain" and "limbs"...

最终，每位学员都将参与机械臂实战项目开发，谁能设计出精度更高、功能更优的机械臂作品？答案将在结营时揭晓，让我们拭目以待。

Eventually, each student will participate in the hands-on development of a robotic arm project. Who will design a more precise and functional robotic arm? The answer will be revealed at the closing ceremony – let’s wait and see.

搭建未来人才成长阶梯

Tech-Innovation Educates:
Building a Growth Ladder for Future Talents

作为本次活动的联合主办方，新哲文院始终致力于整合全球优质教育资源。此次与港大携手打造AI项目，不仅让青少年在家门口就能接触到世界顶尖的AI 教育资源，更通过“理论学习-项目实践-成果转化”的闭环设计，为科创少年提供了从知识吸收到能力输出的完整平台。

As a co-organizer, Sendelta has always strived to integrate global high-quality educational resources. This collaboration with HKU to create the AI camp not only allows teenagers to access world-class AI educational resources locally but also provides a complete platform for tech-innovative teens to transform knowledge absorption into ability output through the closed-loop design of "theoretical learning – project practice – achievement transformation".

对于学员而言，活动的价值远不止于短期学习：在这里完成的机械臂项目可作为升学申请中的实力作品，小组课题报告能成为参与国际科创赛事的基础，表现优异者更有机会获得香港大学教授亲笔推荐信，将为未来申请国内外顶尖学府增添重磅筹码。

For students, the camp’s value goes beyond short-term learning: the robotic arm project completed here can serve as a strong portfolio for further study applications; group project reports can form the basis for participating in international tech-innovation competitions; and outstanding performers may even receive a letter of recommendation from HKU professors, adding significant weight to future applications for top domestic and foreign universities.

在人工智能重塑世界的今天，2025港大AI项目正以专业的课程体系、顶尖的导师团队、丰富的实践机会，为青少年铺就一条通往AI未来的成长之路。这场盛夏的科创之旅，注定将成为他们人生中浓墨重彩的一笔。

In today’s world reshaped by AI, the 2025 HKU AI Summer Program, with its professional curriculum system, top tutor team, and rich practical opportunities, is paving a growth path for teenagers towards an AI future.
