About the Exhibition
Echoing Realms is not only a poetic expression, but also a profound pursuit in the world of art. It signifies more than the layering of imagery - it embodies the deepening of emotion, the echo of thought, and the continuous exploration of the unknown. Like colors blending and bleeding into each other on a canvas, it forms a visual and spiritual space that transcends the ordinary - rich with tension, and full of warmth.
The graduating class of 2025 from Yew Wah School of Shanghai Gubei has embraced this very ethos. They have bravely broken the boundaries of media and form, seeking meaning at the interdiv of painting and video, extending conversations between paper and installation, and shaping expressions in the liminal space between reality and imagination. Through each choice of material, each fusion of style, they layer inspiration, concept, and skill - constructing a unique creative language that speaks to both personal identity and contemporary context.
This year's graduation exhibition, themed Layered Realms, is more than a culmination of three years of artistic growth and experimentation. It marks a pivotal transformation- from student to creator. What the audience encounters is not merely a collection of artworks, but a series of visual narratives that chronicle the students' continuous layering of knowledge, technique, and insight. Through this theme, they respond to an increasingly complex world, embracing a spirit of exploration that is unbounded, curious, and bold.
Within the nurturing and inspiring environment of Yew Wah School of Shanghai Gubei, students have absorbed diverse artistic languages with open minds. They have drawn from multiple cultural perspectives to continually redefine themselves as artists. Their work reflects both the experimental nature of youth and a keen awareness of the social and cultural issues that shape our time. This exhibition stands as a collective farewell, but also as a personal manifesto - a declaration of artistic independence and creative ambition.
The realm of art has no fixed borders. And these young artists, standing at the threshold of departure, now set forth from this exhibition into unknown and expansive futures.
This exhibition was collaboratively planned and organized by the Exhibition Committee-Hermione He, Lily Wu, Gia Tian, Mikaela Dong, Timmy Lin, and Jonathan Huang-under the guidance and support of Acting Vice Principal Ms. Luxin Zhang and Head of Art Mr. Myko Li, who served as the Exhibition Directors. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Visual Arts teachers - Mr. David Leung, Mr. Senan Lavery, Ms. Paula Rodriguez, Mr. Ivan Polishchuk, Ms. Qiao Wu, Mr. Revelin Wu, Ms. Zia Zhong, and Mr. Kevin Lu - for their guidance, support, and unwavering dedication.
We would also like to sincerely thank Co-Principal Mr. Doug Woodruff, General Business Manager Mr. Ray Zhang, Acting Vice Principal Ms. Joanna Hoctor, Head of Teaching and Learning Mr. Quinn An, and all the faculty, students, and parents whose trust and support made this journey possible. It is with your encouragement that we, the graduating artists of 2025, embark on our next chapter - Echoing new ideas, expanding new visions, and building ever more compelling realms of art.
