Grade 1

Grade 1 students had a wonderful time exploring their place in the world — from Earth to China, Dongguan, and ASJ — as part of their Unit of Inquiry, showing growing awareness of the world around them. In Maths, they excitedly began learning about measurement, while in Literacy, they enjoyed revisiting the silent /e/ and discovering how this little letter can completely change a word’s sound and meaning!

Grade 3

This week, the students in Grade 3 have been exercising their brains to build and strengthen their vocabulary by learning how to use dictionaries. By focusing on the first, second, and third letters, the students explored various dictionaries not only to discover words and their definitions but also to arrange words in the order they would appear in a dictionary.

Grade 4 students have been gaining hands-on experience by conducting an archaeological dig around the school. Students have discovered the scattered remains of artifacts and ancient buildings from the Ancient Mayan civilisation and have used them to begin analysing the nature of the lost city.

To begin exploring the interdependence among living organisms in ecosystems, students engaged in a learning activity involving coloured string. Each student was connected to others, creating a complex interconnected structure. If any strand was pulled too hard and broke, the student attached to that string was excluded from the system, illustrating how the removal of one part can disrupt the balance of the ecosystem. This hands-on approach emphasised the reliance of living things on one another for survival.

Through  reading, they explored the rich imagination that defines the genre, focusing on the personification of animals and plants. Students engaged in thoughtful discussions about the deeper messages and life lessons these stories convey, enhancing their literary appreciation and critical thinking skills.


This week, the second-grade students engaged with the classical poem "On the Stork Tower" through an active learning framework. The core activity was a collaborative exercise where one group recited the poem while a parallel group translated the verses into illustrations, thereby converting text into imagery to deepen their collective interpretation. Following this, students connected the poem's philosophical theme to their personal lives, discussing what it means to "aim high and gain perspective" in their own contexts, which led to a more profound internalisation of the poem's enduring wisdom.

Their ability to apply these skills marks significant progress in foundational problem-solving.

By actively doing and creating, they truly began to master the new vocabulary.
