英伦名校面对面！英国国王大学教授团莅临斐特思升学工作坊

On November 7th, Fettes College Guangzhou hosted a key academic exchange event. Three professors from King's College London conducted a university application workshop that combined admissions guidance with academic insights. The session offered students aspiring to top universities direct access to one of the world's leading institutions.

King's College London (KCL), a leading Russell Group and "Golden Triangle" university founded in 1829, is globally recognised for its academic excellence. It ranks among the world’s top institutions in research across medicine, life sciences, natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics, and has produced 12 Nobel laureates, attracting students worldwide.

The three guests brought strong academic backgrounds and extensive practical experience, delivering high-quality content to the event.

Professor Simon Banks is Vice Dean of the School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Engineering at KCL and Professor of Natural Sciences Education in the Department of Chemistry. As a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, he has long been active in education, leading curriculum design for interdisciplinary chemistry-physics programs and researching education policy with both academic rigour and strategic vision.

Professor Helen Collins is Dean of Biological Sciences Education, Co-Director of the Education Centre, and Professor of Immunology and Education at KCL. She has made significant contributions to understanding the immune mechanisms of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection and to advancing science education. She led the development of six new research-based modules for the Biomedical Sciences undergraduate program, aligning the curriculum with the college's leading-edge research and strengthening the link between academic study and real-world practice.

Ms Lexi Liu, International Admissions Officer at KCL, is knowledgeable about international student admissions standards and application procedures, and shares the latest admission updates with students.

Led by student volunteers Elaine, Jackson, and Kelly, the professor visiting group toured the FCG campus, experiencing its international teaching environment and distinctive campus culture. They praised the school's advanced and diverse learning resources—from modern facilities to multidisciplinary practice platforms—for supporting students' holistic development. The student art exhibition, showcasing creativity and strong practical skills, left a lasting impression, with professors commending the students' outstanding abilities and innovation.

At the workshop session, guests delivered engaging presentations. Ms Lexi Liu clearly outlined KCL's core strengths and top disciplines—from medicine and life sciences to natural sciences and engineering mathematics—giving students a clear view of the university's academic offerings. Professor Helen Collins used a case of Parkinson's disease to explain how immunology supports clinical treatment, making complex concepts accessible. Professor Simon Banks demonstrated two simple experiments on electron repulsion, using visible phenomena to introduce theoretical physics. The session was lively, and the students eagerly raised their hands in turn to ask questions.

The exchange activity not only enabled the FCG students to get up close with the resources of world-renowned universities but also allowed them to experience the charm of academia and broaden their horizons for further studies through fun interactions and enthusiastic questions. In the future, FCG will continue to build an international exchange platform to help every student achieve their ideal future!
