Science After School Activity
BY Mr. Jonathan Walker
Teacher of Science

Last week, our young scientists in the Science ASA took a closer look—literally—at one of nature’s most fascinating organs: the eye!
Students explored the structure of a real eye through a hands-on disdiv activity. Guided carefully by their teachers, pupils identified key parts such as the lens, cornea, iris, and optic nerve, discovering how each part works together to allow us to see the world around us.
The excitement in the lab was contagious as students compared what they observed to diagrams from class, making real-world connections to what they’ve been learning about vision and light. For many, this was their first experience handling real biological specimens—a truly unforgettable moment in their scientific journey!
The session sparked plenty of “wow” moments, thoughtful questions, and a few surprised reactions, but most of all, it inspired genuine curiosity and respect for how complex and amazing our bodies are.
Who knows—perhaps this experience has just inspired the next generation of biologists or doctors!

Key Stage 3 French and Spanish Lessons
BY Ms. Agnieszka Golczyk
Head of MFL
Slide Preview Up
Over the past few weeks, Year 9 students of French and Spanish have been working hard on mastering using three various time frames, a key skill at GCSE exams, to be able to express themselves both in writing and speaking in the past, present and future. In order to do that, students had to revise key time expressions and of course verb conjugation in various tenses. The various verb endings can get rather confusing so reaching this goal requires a lot of practice but with the help of online and physical games and activities, students managed to consolidate their understanding of French and Spanish sentence structures and have shown a great progress in being able to recognize and manipulate tenses.
In the meantime, Year 7 Spanish students continued learning the names of school objects and sentence structures allowing them to describe what they have or don’t have in their school bag or classroom. Year 8 students, on the other hand, focused on enriching their descriptions of free time activities with time expressions and opinions.

It has been a pleasure visiting Sixth Form lessons this week and seeing our students fully engaged in their learning. The atmosphere across the Year 12 and 13 classrooms was one of curiosity, focus, and ambition. This reflects the exceptional teaching and learning that takes place every day within our Sixth Form.
Our Year 12 students have settled in extremely well to their new courses, showing growing confidence and enthusiasm across all subjects. Meanwhile, our Year 13 students have progressed to the new level of study exceptionally well, demonstrating real academic maturity and focus as they prepare for their final year of A levels.
In Year 13 Psychology, students explored how mental health disorders are diagnosed, engaging thoughtfully in discussions about classification systems and ethical considerations. Their ability to apply theory to real-world contexts was highly impressive.
Year 13 Computer Science students worked on Boolean algebraic simulations, applying logical reasoning to design and refine digital systems. The collaboration and analytical thinking on display demonstrated their growing confidence and technical skill.
In Year 13 Biology, the focus was on climate change and global warming. Students analysed data trends and discussed the impact of human activity on ecosystems, showing excellent scientific reasoning and communication.
Year 13 Economics students examined the causes of economies of scale, discussing how expanding production can lead to cost advantages and improved efficiency. Their clear understanding of real-world business examples made for an insightful and engaging lesson.
Year 12 Mathematics students were tackling complex statistical problems, showing great perseverance and teamwork as they applied their learning to real-life data. Their enthusiasm for the subject was clear and reflected a genuine love of learning.
Meanwhile, in Year 12 English, students delved into Scene 9 of A Street car Named Desire, exploring emotional tension and key themes that shape the play’s narrative. Their thoughtful analysis and confident discussion highlighted their strong interpretive and critical skills.
Across every classroom, it was inspiring to see such a high level of engagement and a real sense of pride in learning. Our Sixth Form students continue to set the standard for academic excellence, supported by dedicated teachers who create challenging and inspiring lessons that bring subjects to life.
